I am extremely excited to be working with Peter Hutchinson Designs (PHD) for my upcoming Iditarod Trail Invitational (ITI) 1000-mile race in Alaska. Having met the team, looked around the factory workshop, and seen and felt the quality of the down they use, I am convinced they are the best producer of equipment for the extreme cold. Their passion and integrity for ethically sourcing the best materials, and ensuring their products are suited to the individual needs of their customer, place them above any other extreme cold clothing / sleeping bag manufacturer I know. They have a phenomenal reputation and it is entirely deserved.
I will be working with PHD to help field-test prototype equipment before it becomes available, so I can give input based upon my own needs and experiences for Arctic races and adventures. For the ITI race in March 2020, I have ordered a custom-built, insulated and waterproof bivi bag / sleeping bag cover, a sleeping bag sized just right for me and the items I intend to bring into it (footwear, water bladder and batteries, for example), and a down jacket. There are sections of the ITI that can become brutal in the winter conditions, and I am very pleased to know I have such superb equipment to help keep me safe and warm throughout.
